Chandler is in Maricopa County and is the fourth largest city in Arizona. It is part of the Phoenix Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and is surrounded by neighboring communities, including Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa, and more. Dr. Alexander Chandler was the first veterinary surgeon in the Arizona territory studying irrigation engineering in the late 1800s. By 1900 he acquired a significant amount of land, made plans for a town site known as Chandler Ranch, and opened the town in 1912.  

Today, Chandler is known as an innovative technology hub and has a colorful and diverse community of professionals, business owners, and families. Chandler Shopping Center is another place for upscale shopping and dining options like Apple, Lululemon, Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant, and more.

Chandler has many fantastic and memorable places to eat, from fresh-made meals to stunning décor. A local favorite is DC Steakhouse, a sophisticated eatery with a full bar and eye-catching murals. A more casual option, Peixoto Coffee Roasters is a house-roasted coffee shop and bakery serving coffee from Brazil and focusing on sustainability.  

Things to Do

 

Chandler has many year-round activities and celebrations to stay active in the community. The annual Ostrich Festival is on an ostrich ranch and features roaming ostriches. It also has games, rides, and delicious fair food.

Tumbleweed Recreation Center is a 62,00-square-foot modern recreational facility in Tumbleweed Park created to help residents stay active and healthy. It offers personal training, group classes, an indoor track, an art studio, shaded courtyards, courts, and more. Within Tumbleweed Park, there are multipurpose fields, sand volleyball, walking trails, playgrounds, pavilions, and other gathering spaces.

The community is also home to Rawhide, a premier special event center with more than 18 versatile venues on the property. It hosts competitions and fundraisers, banquets and parties, concerts, festivals, holiday events, and more. Another unique venue is the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, which has off-road races, car shows, four racetracks, and an NHRA sanctioned drag strip.

Schools

 

Chandler Unified School District is a public school system in the southeastern part of the Phoenix area serving more than 44,000 students in Chandler, Gilbert, and Queen Creek. The district serves a booming population, and with open enrollment laws, the district has built more than 30 elementary schools, nine middle schools, six high schools, and four alternative schools. Chandler Unified School District has been named A+ Schools of Excellence by the Arizona Education Foundation and is recognized as National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
